Bingothon Summer 2020 will raise money for Fred Hutch
We want to thank Pure Earth again for their cooperation during Bingothon Winter 2019. We were proud to gather funds for Pure Earth and their cause. We also want to give a big thank you to Jen Marraccino for taking her time and doing a live interview with us as well, elaborating on their impact on the world and the effects of pollution. Bingothon will come back in the future to support them.
However due to recent circumstances with the COVID-19 pandemic, we have decided to raise money for Fred Hutch for Bingothon Summer 2020.
The COVID-19 outbreak that began in Wuhan, China, has become an important test case for the risks and benefits of open science — a movement long-simmering within the global research community. By calling for rapid, free and public posting of scientific findings, it amounts to a way for scientists throughout the world to publicly share brief clinical reports and gene sequences of COVID-19 using a platform named Nextstrain, a public website they developed for scientists that provides informative and animated maps of viral evolution. By helping developing this project, this will help the scientific community around the world to work together, to help finding ways to prevent the virus from spreading as well as developing treatments over time, and it is therefore a way for anyone to directly help fighting the pandemic.
You may check out more information about the particular actions that Fred Hutch takes over on their page dedicated to COVID-19 that you may find here.
